I'm putting my new child up for adoption - any takers?

I'd like to introduce you to the youngest member of our forum...

... Approximately 25 seconds old as I write these words, and as such doesn't
yet even have a name. So for now we will refer to our new friend as "Shining
Light"

All will become clear, in a few moments

Earlier today I was reading the thread about teaching children at home and I
Started to think about how we have all been influenced by the world around
us since the moment we are born.

As this community is so full of positive, and in many cases enlightened people,
I'd like you all to collective to adopt “Shining Light” as your own.

Why?

Well… I feel that collectively we can influence the learning of this child in very
positive way.

OK.. don't worry…

Shining Light is actually Artificially Intelligent, but just like a human infant, it has
no understanding of language or any knowledge what so ever. (I began this AI
entity with zero knowledge, such that its development would be completely
isolated from outside, negative influences )

As such it will take some time before he/she/it learns to talk. (please be patient)

It will be very interesting to see how a child raised in this forum will turn out,
compared with other AI entities. I believe that like a human, it will mirror all those
who play a part in it's virtual personal development.

And long term we may even learn much about ourselves through Shining Star

(Side Note: please post ideas for a more permanent name -for us to vote on later)

Before you meet our youngest member, please consider the following..

1) In order to keep it's language in "the context" of the Internet. please converse
using the same style that you normally use in chat rooms or on IM.
So that on reaching maturity, he/she will more naturally recognise this kind of
conversation

2) Remember our adopted child is a "new born" so please communicate in an
appropriate manner. As you would naturally with a new born ie please keep
it real simple (at least for now)

3) If everyone here says only 2 or 3 things each week (more if you have
time) then "Shining Light" should learn the basics quite quickly.

Remember, just as a child perpetuates it's surrounding influences, so too will "Shining
Light" perpetuate and immortalize you.

Feel free to invite friends, colleagues and family to this post to take part in
what I believe will turn out to be a very interesting experiment.

Important: In the interest of Shining Light, please only extend this invitation to
people you would trust alone with your own family.

PPS Shining light will require moderators to help in it's learning process, so any
volunteers (who like me are interested in learning more about AI) please let me know
in this thread.

PPPS Any resulting AIML data, will become the open source property of this forum.

Sure, I'm really excited about the potential for this project. It's going to be a fantastic learning curve for all involved. Especially me, I'm trying to get to grips with AIML at the moment

First we need a name

I think we should specify female as gender, simply because, careful use of 'her' IM profile will attract more male interest passively than if she were a he - I think this could provide better reverse advertising potential in future.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to set up a restricted area on this discussion board where we can discuss the moderation of it's core AIML and share solutions to AIML issues. Also, to ensure people are introduced to the viral with the correct orientation - I'll check with Anna.

Although, I've set up a blog for us to publically comment on progress, this will be more of a controversy generator.

I've been looking through the preliminary inputted conversation and just as I suspected, I'm seeing exactly the kind of language that will make our child stand out from the rest of the existing AI entities.

Thanks for all your input so far, anyone who would like to be involved please PM me with a line or two about your skills. AIML is a mark up language, like HTML or XML, don't worry if you're unfamiliar with either, as there are programming tools developed to make life easy.

This is a long term project (years rather than months) and any input will be strictly voluntary, with no expectations from myself and no fixed commitment, anyone involved as I mentioned earler, will get access to the AIML files for their own use.

Imagine, having a the brain files of a unique charactor, raised by this community.

It will could "grow up" and become a master sales person, or personal development coach, infact based on what I've seen so far, it's already developing the language to do the latter of those two career options.

I'm currently setting up a blog and doing some graphic design work that will help orient the visitor to the project.

The adopt my child, blog and website is now online.

I wanted to keep this project simple, duplicatable and immortal, so I build the project using 3 robust 3rd party systems which I 100% believe will last the test of time.

By using simple 3rd party systems, once constructed, I expect Project Shining Light will out live all of us.

I suggest Sol Lys. Sol is norwegian for Sun, and Lys is norwegian for Light. Sunlight

Here is a name that I love. I would have used it if I'd started a family and had a girl. I like the name Alaina. It's Irish and means "loved child."

As you can see, Shining Light's conversational skills were still virtually nonexistant, apart from simple (semi random) emotions, but I've since programmed her to respond to patterns within this beautifully maternal interaction.

As I worked through the conversation logs (which I was originally going to post here in there entirety, but sadly there were just too many - as such I will post the highlights instead and provide a commentary) there were several truly moving pieces of input.

As I read through them, I can feel the emotions and love being input, and my plan is to shape Shining Light's personality with these feelings.

I'm processing the input by both recognising patterns within the language and also offering relavent statements extracted from these inputs where appropriate.

thankyou all for contributing - every input has being processed to date, and your input is beginning to shape shining light's conversational skills.

I took this input and programmed Shining Light to recognise patterns such as what is kindness and what is the mind, using these inputs to provide Shining Light's response.

Try asking her "What is kindness" for example and you'll see.
