 | 06-21-2005, 06:43 PM | | | An International Project for the Future of Energy and Food These should be seperate initiatives. Energy is one, Food is another. These projects are so large in scope that they need to be made as streamlined as possible if they may grow strong. The idea for global energy was stabbed at by Buckminster Fuller. It may be beneficial for somebody stabbing at energy to look at this example. This meme is hobbling but alive at: GENI Global Energy Network Institute was founded in 1986 by Peter Meisen to investigate the idea of Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller, proposing a global electric energy grid as the number one priority to solve many of the world’s most pressing problems. In 1991, GENI was incorporated in San Diego, California, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation to conduct research and education related to a compelling and technologically feasible global energy strategy that addresses fundamental issues of quality of life, energy efficiency and sustainable development. That strategy is to interconnect electrical power grids between countries and continents, thereby creating an interconnected global energy grid, with an emphasis on linking local and remote renewable energy resources (wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, tidal and biomass). The focus is on electricity and its sources because of their relationship to all the major measures of a sustainable society and environment. | 09-01-2005, 03:28 AM | | | Post on Tesla and energy Questions. This 2nd one is the proper post, first a mistake Nikola Tesla was born at midnight on July 9, 1856, in the village of Smiljan, in the province of Lika, Croatia—then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Tesla was the genius who ushered in the age of electrical power. Tesla had a vivid imagination and an intuitive way of developing scientific hypotheses. After seeing a demonstration of the "Gramme dynamo" (a machine that when operated in one direction is a generator, and when reversed is an electric motor), Tesla visualized a rotating magnetic field and developed plans for an induction motor applying the concept. This electric motor was the first step toward the successful application of alternating-current. Telsa used his imagination to prove and apply his hypotheses. Here is how he explained his creative process: ****Before I put a sketch on paper, the whole idea is worked out mentally. In my mind I change the construction, make improvements, and even operate the device. Without ever having drawn a sketch I can give the measurements of all parts to workmen, and when completed all these parts will fit, just as certainly as though I had made the actual drawings. It is immaterial to me whether I run my machine in my mind or test it in my shop. The inventions I have conceived in this way have always worked. In thirty years there has not been a single exception. My first electric motor, the vacuum wireless light, my turbine engine and many other devices have all been developed in exactly this way.**** Creation???? Tesla completed his elementary education in Croatia. He continued his schooling in the Polytechnic School in Graz and finished at University of Prague. He worked as an electrical engineer in Germany, Hungary and France before emigrating to the United States in 1884. Arriving in New York City with four cents in his pocket, Tesla found employment with Thomas Edison in New Jersey. Differences in style between the two men soon lead to their separation. In 1885, George Westinghouse, founder of the Westinghouse Electric Company, bought patent rights to Tesla's system of alternating-current. The advantages of alternating-current over Edison's system of direct-current became apparent when Westinghouse successfully used Tesla's system to light the World Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893. Tesla established a laboratory in New York City in 1887. His experiments ranged from an exploration of electrical resonance to studies of various lighting systems. To counter fears of alternating-current, Tesla gave exhibitions in his laboratory in which he lighted lamps without wires by allowing electricity to flow through his body. When Tesla became a United States citizen in 1891, he was at the peak of his creative powers. He developed in rapid succession the induction motor, new types of generators and transformers, a system of alternating-current power transmission, fluorescent lights, and a new type of steam turbine. He also became intrigued with wireless transmission of power. In 1900, Tesla began construction on Long Island of a wireless broadcasting tower. The project was funded with $150,000 capital from financier J. Pierpont Morgan. The project was abandoned when Morgan withdrew his financial support. Tesla's work shifted to turbines and other projects, but his ideas remained on the drawing board due to a lack of funds. Tesla's notebooks are still examined by engineers in search of unexploited ideas. Tesla allowed himself few close friends, although one was humorist and author, Mark Twain. However, when he died in New York City on January 7, 1943, hundreds of admirers attended his funeral services, mourning the loss of a great genius. At the time of his death Tesla held over 700 patents. Are the answers in the works of Tesla and Bucky Fuller? Ponderings- my own views. When Kennedy made his promise in the 60's that we would have a man on the moon in 10 years and we would beat the Russians in that race... how did we do it? How long did it take to "create" the atom bomb @ Los Alamos in our race to beat the Third Reich? We have seen what can be done when the best minds have their intentions in alignment and the monetary resources to back up these intentions. Therefore, why do you think we have not yet created inexpensive to free alternative energy? The Oil Industry? The Automotive Big 4? Other Reasons? With Gas prices reaching 3.00$ here today for regular, I ask: what happened to the race for Solar Energy, Electrical, Wind and other alternatives to oil? Why have we not put together a symposium of the best minds on the planet as well as the resources (funding) to support the creation of clean, safe, inexpensive energy! What are your thoughts on this matter? Just late night ponderings. __________________ | 01-08-2006, 09:44 AM | | | There are ways I've seen in mags like popular science lots of solutions for energy conservation. I think that a lot of the solutions are already there. I think the problem is that people are just not sensitive to the damage we do in our environment despite all the info and stats which can often be really scary. The trick is to change the mindset and lifestyle of people. One way to do this I think is to popularize the "new" lifestyle of energy conservation. Somehow it has to become "hip" and "in" in order for people to take it on. There also needs to be a real marketing scheme to do this because funny enough energy conservation generally is often far more expensive than the wasteful ways we do things now. That's what I can think of at this moment JLB | 01-31-2006, 11:53 AM | | | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 1 | | People in possession of money and power are seldom anxious to relinquish either. I've seen a guy who heated his home (in a northern climate) all year on a quart of oil (using friction). At the time it hit the news, he was packing a gun due to threats on his life. Saw a guy had a car that ran on vegetable oil. News of that dried up fast. I personally knew a kid who'd built an engine that ran on air...and cleaned the air in the process...reverse polution. Only investor who showed an interest was a major oil company (better get this one in the vault, boys). Currently there's a group in Europe trying to produce a car that runs on compressed air. Let's hope the corporate thugs don't get that one. There have been lots of energy solutions over the years, but you generally you'll only see it in the news once and then they either sell out to the current power structure or...well...check the obituaries. The core problem may be "corporate personhood". But that needs another separate thread I suspect | 02-06-2006, 04:03 PM | | | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 1 | | Corporate Personhood I think Howard gave us the insight into (what I regard as) the real issue with the multinational corporates being one of the main barriers to solving the global Energy / Food issue. I believe the solution lies rather than a "global solution" the reverse is desirable - i.e. local solutions - lots of small scale projects at the village / town level. I think as soon as you talk about a global, large scale solutions they become too easily controlled by corporate interests who are only interested in making money above all else - we see that oil prices are at record highs, and the oil companies are making record profits, more than any company at any time in history.... thats my 2c! | 02-14-2006, 10:48 PM | | Board Neophyte | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 1 | | We feast while many starve! We waste more than enough to feed the hungry! To make things equal would require great sacrifice! Are you prepared to sacrifice? Alternatives exist, the will is weak! What a thrill to see him referenced and to learn of the work of Tesla. The idea of small projects which can be developed below the radar screen of multinationals seems to show promise. Also, I think we are entering the age of greater influence of the citizenry. The high cost of fossil fuels makes the search for renewable alternatives much more attractive. Polls are indicating that the average citizen is more hip to this trend than current 'leadership' recognizes. When the political will to develop these alternatives exists, the money will come and the initiatives will advance. Thats my story and I'm sticking with it. nancyt | 03-22-2006, 10:36 AM | | | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 4 | | Hi nancyt, Thanks, I am glad to see that someone else remembers Bucky. A few years ago I played his Global Village Game, now that was an eye opener! I agree this will have to be a grass roots movement that builds from the "bottom up"! Look at the Health Food Industry, it started out with what people referred to as "long haired hippies...:-). It is now a Billion Dollar Industry. The New England Journal of Medicine stated a few years ago that one in three visits to Dr's are now to "alternative practitioners". So, what happened, General Mills and Kellogs started to produce "healthy cereals", major drug companies started to sell "supplements" that years ago only a health food store would carry. There is a connection between the oil industry and the pharmautical industry. 10 years ago medical schools only taught one class on nutrition, now many have courses on nutrition, many alternative modalties and it is growing every day. What was "live cell therapy in Mexico , Germany and Switzerland" since the 40's "where many movie stars went for reguvenation treatments", is now showing up in the controversy over stem cell therapy. I know this works! I have several severe chronic illnesses that allopathic Dr's told me there was nothing they could do to help me. I have spent years learning about altnerative health it saved my life! And live cell therapy works, if you want to know more write me! I should have been dead by now ( long story) I am using a new treatment and I know within the year I will be healed and will finish my book telling the story of my journey. The money will go to fund my 2 projects a house of Transition and Tranformation for Women and 2 Self-Esteen "New Age" toys for children. I am not a business women, I am a change agent...:-) One of my old bosses was a journalist... his favorite quote when we were investigating why an alternative clinic was closed or why a supplement was taken off the market or what was happening with the Codex was " follow the money!". He passed on Sept 11.2002. His most popular book was Medical Armagedden" it explains the history of 'medicine' and all the politics that went with its development. I agree Nancy, when the political will to develop these exist ( ie there is more money in doing it a new way then in continuing the old) things will change. That's , my story and I am sticking to it Nicole | 06-18-2006, 08:57 PM | | | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 74 | | Quote: | Originally Posted by juancamilobuitrago Hi: I just read a page about a possible alternative for food, it sounds like crazy stuff but worth to look at it. http://www.solarhealing.com The man behind this teach a method to recharge ourselves by looking the sun. If I recall it correctly, I had read another case where a lady lived on a small dose of sun light ... in Parmahansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi.
